What a Roman is for
Softness a hard blind can’t give you
A Roman blind is a flat panel of fabric that folds up in neat pleats when you raise it. Down, it’s a clean sheet of colour and texture across the window. It’s the one blind in the range that’s as much about how the room feels as what the sun does.
They suit the front rooms, the lounge, a formal bedroom, an old homestead where a stark roller would look wrong. In a valley of practical houses, the Roman is where you allow yourself a bit of warmth.
Two things worth knowing
The lining does the work
- Light-filter lining
- Keeps the room bright but soft, cuts glare and gives daytime privacy. The usual choice for a living room where you want the daylight in.
- Blockout lining
- A Roman can be lined with blockout fabric too, so a bedroom Roman still darkens down. It won’t seal the edges the way a channelled roller does, so for a serious day sleeper we’d be honest and point you at a roller for that window.
A note on the dust
Fabric holds more of the valley’s dust than a metal slat does, so in a room that cops the paddock or a dirt road we’ll say so. For those windows an aluminium venetian wipes clean and lasts better. Right blind, right room, every time.
Made, fitted and safe
Romans are made to your window’s measurement and fitted by a licensed installer. The lift cord and any chain are set and secured to the Australian safety standard for corded internal blinds, and cordless operation is available where a room needs it, especially a child’s room. As with everything we make, there’s no price until we’ve measured. Fabric choice and window size drive the cost, so we quote it once we’ve seen the room.
